It’s been almost 10 years since the untimely death of Run-DMC's Jam Master Jay, and to mark the anniversary, his close friend Erik “Shake” James is presenting the JMJ Back to School Giveaway. The community event will be held at Shake’s Milwaukee barber shop, where he will be giving away school supplies as well as free Adidas as part of Adidas’ “Show Us How You Represent” marketing campaign.

Along with some of Jay’s closest friends the event will take place on Friday, July 20th from 12-4pm at Three Stripes Barber & Beauty located at 1035 West Hampton in Milwaukee. If attending expect to see JMJ’s band mate Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Atlanta Hawks guard Devin Harris, and NBA All-Star Josh Howard, who all will be available to sign autographs and take pictures.

As one of the first companies to sponsor Run-DMC, Adidas is asking that people attending the JMJ Back to School Giveaway, as well as fans across the nation, take part in the event by tweeting #Represent@adidasorginals. The Adidas brand has continued to support JMJ’s legacy through various campaigns and donations to the JMJ Foundation.

"A day doesn’t go by that I don’t think about Jay and miss him,” says Shake, “It’s difficult at times but we keep it positive and try to live our lives the way he would have continued to live his- by helping others. With this event I wanted to do something good for my community in Jay’s name. I want to honor his name and continue to keep his memory alive. ”

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
