This August 17, Sam Fell's "ParaNorman" spooks moviegoers. A young outcast can communicate with ghosts and is tasked with saving his small town once he learns of a witch's evil plan to raise the dead. Dread Central shared some new stills from the stop motion animated, supernatural flick with a voice cast that includes Casey Affleck, Tempestt Bledsoe, Anna Kendrick, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Are you ready for more creepily charming stuff from "Coraline" and "Corpse Bride" writer Chris Butler?

Production on Track for Post-Apocalyptic Tale 'Snow Piercer'
"The Host" director Bong Joon-ho has wrapped shooting on "Snow Piercer" — Korea's most expensive movie to date and based on the French graphic novel series "Le Transperceneige." The Asian film was shot in the Czech Republic and centers on a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world living on a train that circles the snowy, icy remains of Earth after a global glaciation. "Captain America"'s Chris Evans, "The Host" star Song Kang-ho, Alison Pill, John Hurt, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, and Ewen Bremner will be aboard the lonely train. Bong promises the film will be moody, portraying a sense of "desperateness." He told the Yonhap News Agency that the film's stark setting won't overwhelm the story's power. "The exterior should be only groundwork to show all that."

Stitch Together This 'Silent Hill: Revelation 3D' Poster from Comic-Con
Oh hi there, new "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D" one-sheet. We heard you made friends with fans at Comic-Con as an exclusive gift for those who attended your panel chat. We like your smile — or at least what we think might be your smile. It's hard to tell thanks to that giant face wound and messy stitching. We can't wait to find out more about you on October 26, but until then we know that Heather Mason is haunted by bizarre nightmares on the eve of her 18th birthday and the disappearance of her father. Eventually she realizes she's not who she thinks she is, and dark, demonic forces try to consume her.

Guillermo del Toro Still Has His Sights Set 'At the Mountains of Madness'
"I think we may still make it. When I'm brave enough to go and see 'Prometheus,' I'll know," Guillermo del Toro recently said about his version of the H.P. Lovecraft tale "At the Mountains of Madness." "But for now, I don’t know. We are all nothing but human beings. I go to the theatre, I buy my ticket for 'Prometheus' and I go and see something else because I'm afraid. I’m not a mental entity, I am also emotional because the ideas are similar, from what I've heard, and I'll see it next week, I promise!" The director is, of course, referring to both projects sharing strange creatures, mysterious ruins, and a legion of ancient ones. We're always happy to see what Del Toro is dishing up — especially when it comes to something like a Lovecraft story. Let us know if you're still desperate for "Madness" below.

Drink Booze to Stay Alive in Horror-Comedy 'Grabbers'
Irish import "Grabbers" features alcohol and tentacles. We're pretty much sold on this one already, but a new trailer featuring slimy sea monsters and tons of black comedy really closed the deal. When residents of a sleepy fishing town find their costal homestead overrun by monsters, they realize that the only way to fend them off is to stay drunk. Really drunk. Watch the trailer on Twitch, who called "Grabbers'" creatures "fantastic" in their Sundance Film Festival review. Will you be visiting this genre gem in the future?

'Paranormal Activity" Producer Takes Over 'Ouija' Film
"Paranormal Activity" producer Jason Blum will be taking on the adaptation of popular Hasbro board game, "Ouija" — and thank goodness, since the original team behind the film wanted to nix the horror angle and make it a "Jumanji-like" adventure tale. Um, no. Variety reported that Blum and his team will create a high-concept, low-budget movie, similar to the feel of the "Paranormal Activity" franchise. According to the trade report, we'll be scared by someone moving the planchette on purpose sometime in 2013 when "Ouija" haunts theaters.

'Solomon Kane' Trailer Reveals Disfigured Baddies
Fangoria delivered the new "Solomon Kane" trailer. The film will be available on VOD August 24 and in theaters September 28, from director Michael J. Bassett. It's based on a work by "Conan" author Robert E. Howard. The film stars James Purefoy as Kane — a 16th century British captain who is deflected from his violent mission by demonic forces. Soon, however, he's forced to face the dark side again when tasked with saving a young girl in England. See what you make of Kane in the trailer, and drop your comments below.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
