If the recent July 4 holiday left you with a desire to delve further into American history, then this bit of movie news may be up your alley. According to Deadline, an announcement from Disney has put forth the dates when moviegoers will be able to see the Steven Spielberg directed film "Lincoln" in theaters. Viewers can get transported back to the 19th century first when it makes its exclusive release on November 9, followed by a widespread opening a week later on November 16.

As Deadline pointed out, the November 16 wide release will pit the film against the premiere of fan behemoth "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2." However, it's probably safe to say that the teenage-vampire franchise and historical biopic fans may not have too much demographic overlap for either to be too concerned about the other stealing potential audience members opening weekend.

Daniel Day-Lewis is taking his character commitment acting skills to the titular role, complete with the appropriate facial hair the actor was previously spotted sporting for the role. When the Spielberg film makes its way to theaters in November, Day-Lewis will be alongside a talented group of co-stars such as Sally Field and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as his wife and son, and Tommy Lee Jones as Congressman Thaddeus Stevens.

This adaptation of Doris Kearns Goodwin's book "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" has a screenplay by Pulitzer-prize winner Tony Kushner and will focus on Lincoln's life during his presidency (1861 to 1865 in case you're a little rusty on the exact years). With the release dates announced, we hope that a "Lincoln" trailer or some more images may not be too far off in the future, so be sure to stay tuned as we wait and see.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
