While most of urban America—or, at least NYC residents—were worrying about securing tickets to watch Jay-Z perform at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center this fall, the Roc Nation CEO was being targeted in a new lawsuit. Bronx clothing designer Dwayne Walker claims that Hov and his former Roc-A-Fella record label partners owe him $7 million in unpaid royalties for designing the infamous Roc-A-fella label logo.

New York Daily News reports that on Thursday (July 12) a copyright infringement suit was filed in Manhattan Federal Court stating that Dwayne Walker created the logo which features the letter R, a record and a champagne bottle.“The logo has become universally recognized as an iconic symbol of Jay-Z, one of the most successful recording artists in the history of popular music,” the suit says.

Roc-A-Fella Records was a revolutionary record label that started out back in 1995, which is when Walker claims that he came up with the logo. Walker also added that he actually saw what label co-founder Damon Dash had in mind for the design and told him he could do better. The label is now a subsidiary of Universal Music Group and Jay-Z’s publicist has made no comment on the suit.

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
