'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' Split In Two, Opening November 2014 And 2015

Most people assumed "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/484954/moviemain.jhtml"]The Hunger Games[/url]" would play out similarly to two other famous literary series, "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/383853/moviemain.jhtml"]Harry Potter[/url]" and "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/457372/moviemain.jhtml"]Twilight[/url]," by slipping up its final installment. A new report confirms that everyone was right.

The third book of Suzanne Collins' series, "Mockingjay," will be released as two separate films, one hitting theaters in November 2014, the other, one year later.

This was the widely held assumption since all the primary cast members initially signed on for four films. As recently as the premiere for "The Hunger Games," producers said that they were unsure about how the leftover story would be spread out among the three remaining movies.



Lionsgate will release "Mockingjay" along the same lines as "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" and "The Twilight Sage: Breaking Dawn." The latter, which was put out by Summit, who is now owned by Lionsgate, also spaced their last two films out with a year in between installments. Harry Potter fans only had to wait eight months.
