When President Obama started taking an interest in Hollywood recently, we guess he got really interested. According to a new report, the President is hoping to stop by the Atlanta set of the Jackie Robinson biopic "42" when he's in the city tomorrow for some fundraisers.

Deadline heard the news from Legendary Entertainment chief Thomas Tull, who they report has already given $35,800 to the Obama Victory Fund 2012. Tull said that the White House called him earlier in the week to "see if it would be OK if Obama came by," Deadline reports, to which Tull unsurprisingly said yes. The set visit is still being worked out, but we bet Harrison Ford, Chadwick Boseman, Alan Tudyk and director/writer Brian Helgeland are all pretty freaking stoked.

Interestingly enough, Obama last visited Atlanta in March to stop by a fundraiser hosted by Tyler Perry. Sounds like someone is trying to find Hollywood's soft spot. And whether it's coincidence or not, he's been mentioning Robinson a lot recently as someone who laid "the groundwork" for him to become America's first black President. This set visit is either good timing or a very clever campaign move on the part of Obama, but at least it's great marketing for the folks behind the movie.

"42" tells the story of Robinson's 1947 rookie season, during which his player number was 42. The film is set to be released on April 12, 2013.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
