Let's face it, it will take a lot to get girls interested in going to see a big screen reboot of "Baywatch." But Paramount Pictures might have an idea of what that "a lot" is.

A new report from Twitch is saying that the studio is eying Justin Timberlake to play the main character in their long-in-development project. We're putting this very much in the rumors bucket for now, but it doesn't seem so farfetched to think that the former *NSYNC frontman would sign on for the role.

Though Timberlake is on a roll, grabbing great dramatic parts thanks to his turn as Sean Parker in "The Social Network," he's still done his fair share of silly comedies. Let's not forget that the man starred in movies like "The Love Guru," "Yogi Bear" and "Friends with Benefits" not that long ago. Playing a David Hasselhoff-esque character in a reboot of such a beloved television show might not be that bad for his career, even if the movie ends up being bad (or worse, forgettable).

Twitch's report says that Timberlake would play a "disgraced former Olympic swimmer who tries out for the Baywatch crew." Come on, that doesn't sound so bad. And Timberlake would be able to show off his rockin' bod. Are Clint Eastwood or the Coen brothers offering him that? Didn't think so.

The "Baywatch" movie is the brain child of Paramount and producers Ivan Reitman, Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson. Apparently the film's writers have roles for Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson if they so desire them.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
