The closer we get to the July 6 release date of "Savages," the more intrigued we get by its line-up of leading actors. Oliver Stone's latest stars Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, Benicio Del Toro and John Travolta, and they all look like they're giving performances at the top of their game.

A new series of clips from the film have been released (via Collider), and they showcase some of the great onscreen chemistry that we're going to be privy to in the upcoming movie. But what the scenes did more than anything else was solidify our excitement for Hayek's villainous turn as the Mexican Baja Cartel leader Elena. One clip featuring her and Lively's Ophelia is particularly tense, and we have a feeling Hayek is going to be getting a lot of attention for her role in this film.

The scene takes place at a dinner Elena and Ophelia are having, with Elena reminding Ophelia that she will happily kill her two boyfriends—Kitsch's Chon and Johnson's Ben—at the first opportunity. Ophelia wishes her good luck doing that, since she claims she is the only person who can get the drug dealers in the same place at the same time.

"There's something wrong with your love story, baby," Elena chides. "They may love you, but they will never love you as much as they love each other, otherwise they wouldn't share you, would they?"

Oh, snap. Ophelia doesn't look too pleased by that revelation. "Savages" looks to be far different than any other movie coming out this summer, and we're thrilled to see these actors give some (hopefully) truly great performances.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
