'Dirty Dancing' Remake Delayed For At Least A Year

Nobody puts Baby in a corner, but Lionsgate is putting their "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/9297/moviemain.jhtml"]Dirty Dancing[/url]" remake in limbo.

[url="http://www.deadline.com/2012/06/dirty-dancing-reboot-postponed-lionsgate-movie/"][i]Deadline[/i][/url] reported that the studio has paused production on the movie for at least a year for "casting reasons." The dancing flick was originally slated to hit theaters on July 26, 2013, but now it looks like it won't be coming out until 2014 at earliest.

Even with that disappointing news, original "Dirty Dancing" choreographer and "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/295292/moviemain.jhtml"]High School Musical[/url]" helmer [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/93060/personmain.jhtml"]Kenny Ortega[/url] is still attached to direct the flick. There has been no cast announced for the project yet.



That doesn't mean that people haven't auditioned for the parts of Baby and Johnny Castle, though. [i]Deadline[/i] claimed that Lea Michele, Liana Liberato and Canadian singer Nikki Yanofsky all went out for the female lead, while Derek Hough, "Brothers & Sisters" star Luke Grime and Justin Gaston tried out for the role previously held by [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/100429/personmain.jhtml"]Patrick Swayze[/url].

The original statement released by Lionsgate about their "Dirty Dancing" remake reads, "The new film is a celebration of one of the most beloved movies of all time. Paying tribute to the emotional excitement of first love, the thrills and complexity of sexual awakening, the soul stirring power of dance, and the classic tale of teenage Baby's forbidden romance with Johnny Castle, the remake will incorporate classic songs from the 1960s, hits from the original film and brand new compositions."

In addition to the original 1987 "Dirty Dancing" film, there was a TV series released in 1988 and a 2004 movie follow-up called "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/233758/moviemain.jhtml"]Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights[/url]" that starred Diego Luna.
