It's been a busy week over at MTV Splash Page, and we're not just talking about the Black Panther rumor heard 'round the world. Directors and writers have been hired for multiple other comic book movie projects, on both the Marvel and DC Comics sides of the aisles.

In brief, here are the updates...

» At long last, "Captain America 2" has a director. Directors, we should say: "Community" duo Anthony and Joe Russo are in final negotiations with Marvel to get behind the lens of the shield-slinging super-soldier's next big-screen outing. A controversial choice, perhaps, but one that keeps in line with Marvel's propensity to hire unexpected filmmakers (see Jon Favreau, Kenneth Branagh for more). Tell us what you think of the Russo brothers' hiring in our poll!

» In the DC realm, "Justice League" has a new writer as well: Will Beall, who also wrote "Gangster Squad" and the upcoming "Logan's Run" reboot. Apparently, Beall has been quietly at the job for almost a year, and comic book scribe Mark Millar has already heard whispers about the "dark and mature" script.

» Finally, it appears that "Wonder Woman" is moving forward as well. "Green Lantern" co-writer Michael Goldenberg is on board for the tale of Princess Diana, though no additional details are available just yet.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
