Ridley Scott fans should rejoice at this latest "Prometheus" news: presale ticket stubs indicate that the upcoming Fox film will be rated R.

The revelation came (via Collider) when an IMDB user posted an image of their advanced midnight screening ticket for the movie with an R rating clearly displayed. There had been some speculation that the film would be PG-13 in an attempt to draw in a wider audience, but we're glad that it will have the same mature rating as its predecessor, "Alien."

However, there is some other news floating around pertaining to "Prometheus" and Guillermo Del Toro's "At The Mountains of Madness" that is bumming us out a bit.

According to Del Toro, Universal likely won't adapt "At The Mountains of Madness" like they planned because it is a very similar story to "Prometheus."

"Same premise. Scenes that would be almost identical," he wrote in the Del Toro Films message boards. "Both movies seem to share identical set pieces and the exact same BIG REVELATION (twist) at the end. I won't spoil it."

Apparently "Alien" was heavily influenced by H.P. Lovecraft's novella, so it gave Del Toro pause when Ridley Scott started filming "Prometheus." Even the Greek metaphor is something that had connections to "At The Mountains of Madness." But the "Pan's Labyrinth" and "Hellboy" director took this news like a champ even though it's clear he's disappointed.

"The sad part is- I have been pursuing 'ATMOM' for over a decade now- and, well, after 'Hellboy II' two projects I dearly loved were not brought to fruition for me," Del Toro said. "The good part is: One project did… And I am loving it and grateful for the blessings I have received."

"Pacific Rim," Del Toro's latest film, is due in theaters on July 12, 2013.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
