Though Bryan Fuller is busy prepping his Hannibal Lecter TV series, he definitely hasn't given up on his dream to return "Star Trek" to the small screen.

The "Pushing Daisies" creator recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the long-planned project, and he confirmed that he and director/producer Bryan Singer have talked about the idea for a series. It turns out that the show still could get lift off, but not until J.J. Abrams releases his upcoming "Star Trek" sequel.

"Bryan and I are big fans of 'Trek' and have discussed a take on what we would do, and we would love to do it," Fuller said. "I don’t think anything is going to happen in any official capacity until after the next movie comes out. And I'm sure it would be wisely under J.J. Abrams' purview of what happens. He’s the guardian of 'Trek' right now."

It's unclear whether Fuller and Singer would be open to working with David Foster, the head of sci-fi production company 1947 Entertainment. Foster revealed a pretty detailed "Star Trek" pitch last August, one that could feasibly fit in to Abrams' movies' universe.

When MTV News had the chance to talk with Fuller about the project back in 2008, he said that he felt that "Star Trek" needed to recreate itself. With Abrams' reboot doing just that, it seems like his ideas for a new series are more relevant than ever.

“I would love to do another 'Star Trek' series,” Fuller said. “One where you could go back to the spirit and color of the original 'Star Trek,' because somehow, it got cold over the years. I love ‘Next Generation,’ but it’s a little cooler and calmer than the ones from the ‘60s, which were so dynamic and passionate.”

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
