We're understandably excited for Rian Johnson's "Looper." It's got a mind melting premise, a badass trailer and promises of a classic Joseph Gordon-Levitt performance.

We thought that it was impossible for anyone to be more excited about "Looper" until we talked to Gordon-Levitt. He's really excited.

Gordon-Levitt spoke to us for our Summer Movie Preview and couldn't help but mention the upcoming sci-fi film with his "Brick" director Johnson.

"'Looper' is, to be honest, some of the best work I've ever done as an actor," Gordon-Levitt said. "I really transformed myself. Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed 'Brick,' is—I think—one of the greatest filmmakers going."

In his praise for Johnson, Gordon-Levitt even went as far as comparing him to two other directors he worked with this year, Christopher Nolan and Steven Spielberg. "[Johnson] actually has a lot in common with Chris Nolan and Steven Spielberg. He's a brilliant, brilliant guy. I cannot wait for people to see that movie," he said.

The trailer that dropped last week was enough to convince us to see "Looper," but Gordon-Levitt said that's only the start of the fun. "From that little trailer, you can hardly get it. They wanted to make a big, banging action movie trailer, which is accurate because it is a big, banging action movie," he said. "But when you actually see the movie and you really get a sense of what those prosthetics look like, I'm really excited for people to see this character because it's just nothing like me. That's my favorite thing as an actor, to create a character that's other than myself."

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
