'Motor City' Adds Gary Oldman As Villain

[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/47550/personmain.jhtml"]Gary Oldman's Oscar nomination[/url] has been [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/01/11/oscars-five-great-actors-snubs/"]a long time coming[/url], so excuse the Englishman for getting a little cast crazy in the post-ceremony celebration.

According to [url="www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/gary-oldman-motor-city-286512"]The Hollywood Reporter[/url], Oldman is entering final negotiations to play the villain of "Motor City," a movie about "a small-time hood who is framed and sent to prison, only to exact revenge years later to get back the woman he loves." Directed by Albert Hughes, who previously helmed "The Book of Eli" and "From Hell," it will look to start shooting in April.

In "Motor City," Dominic Cooper plays the hood, Amber Heard will be the girlfriend, and Oldman himself will be the "kingpin-type who has his hooks into the woman." With talent like that, how could it go wrong?

Even if Hughes' previous projects haven't all lit the Hollywood world on fire, he has a strong feel for dark landscapes and moral greys. Oldman and Hughes previously worked together on "Eli," in which he played a conniving son of a gun trying to stake out his place in the post-apocalyptic America. I'd say something about Hughes' ability to get a good performance out of Oldman, but this is [i]Gary Oldman[/i], you know? The magic flows through him and out into the world.

By the way, if you haven't seen Oldman's Oscar-nominated role in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," get thee to a cinema.
