R. Kelly Adding 32 Chapters To 'Trapped In The Closet' Series

R. Kelly spent much of 2011 showing a more mature side to his music, but he’s currently resuscitating one of his most popular and infamous projects from 2005. In a recent interview with an on-the-street TMZ reporter, the Chicago singer/songwriter/producer revealed that an additional thirty-two—yes, thirty-two—chapters of “Trapped In The Closet” are in the works.

“It cost a lot of money to do it, so I’m looking for investors,” Kelly said. “32 more chapters, you guys have to find out what the package is.”

The series of songs, which narrates a one-night stand that sets off a soap opera of more sex and lies, began in 2005 and was released through 2007, in over 22 chapters. The first five chapters debuted on his album TP.3 Reloaded, and a preview of the twelfth chapter aired at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. All chapters after the first five were released exclusively on DVD.

“’Trapped In The Closet,’ aside from me being silly and not having a job and having nothing else to do sitting around the studio, I’ve always wanted to be a movie director,” Kelly admits in the TMZ interview. “…That’s my movie director, seeping out through my music.”

Kelly’s last album, December 2010’s Love Letter, utilized more influences from classic soul music and featured clean, wholesome lyrics—a noted departure from his usual penchant for sexually-charged radio hits. The disc was Kelly’s thirteenth U.S. Billboard top-10 charting album, and has been certified Gold by the RIAA for its record sales.
