The two most prominent members of Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group have announced plans to release a collaborative mixtape. Just before Meek Mill and Wale took the stage at Club Dubai in Baltimore on Saturday night (December 17), Wale tweeted, “Wale n Meek Mill mixtape???????? Stay tuned," while Meek Mill followed up, adding, "Me and wale #mixtape…Ya’ll ready 4 Dat!!!!!

The duo’s chemistry was first displayed on Self Made Vol. 1, the Maybach Music Group compilation disc that hit stores in May. That disc built Meek Mill’s star power with songs like “Tupac Back” and “I’ma Boss,” and laid a new foundation for Wale, whose MMG debut Ambition sold 163,000 copies in its first week.

Their respective mixtape history is nothing to balk at, either. Wale’s Seinfeld-inspired Mixtape About Nothing series was a fan favorite before his debut album in 2009, and Meek Mil’s Dreamchasers mixtape was critically acclaimed as well.

Wale’s tweets didn’t tie a release date to the mixtape, but speculation states that it will drop sometime in 2012. Other emcees pooled their talents for duo albums as well.

Other notable collaborative projects this year came from Eminem and longtime rhyme partner Royce Da 5’9” who finally recorded a project as Bad Meets Evil, and the result was a Billboard single and Royce’s first RIAA-certified gold plaque. Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Throne resulted in one of the biggest tours of the year. Rick Ross and Drake are up next, with plans to release their Y.O.L.O. mixtape in 2012.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
