Elijah Wood's A 'Maniac,' Robert Rodriguez Talks More 'Predators'

We recently brought you news about [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/11/03/alice-cooper-dark-shadows-tim-burton-johnny-depp/"]"Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood headlining a remake of William Lustig's sleazy horror classic, "Maniac."[/url] It did seem strange that the sweet and gentle Frodo would be playing a perverse psychopath hunting women in his spare time, but we were — dare we say — kind of excited to see how he'd pull it off.

Alexandre Aja ("Piranha," "Haute Tension") is producing the remake that finds Wood as a creepy killer working at an antique mannequin shop (of course). He hunts for his victims through the Internet, and like the original character Frank, has massive mommy issues. Director Robert Rodriguez — who recently trapped Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishburne in the wilds with the hyper violent alien hunters — spoke to The Playlist, who asked him about a new installment in the series. "I haven't talked to them [Fox] in a while. I know they liked the idea of doing another one. I should probably call and check in. I've just been busy doing these other things," the director revealed. While Rodriguez's first updating of the creature-iffic actioner wasn't all we hoped for, we'd settle in for round two. What about you?

Hammer Films — of Christopher Lee vampire fame and most recently "Let Me In" and Daniel Radcliffe's "The Woman in Black" — will be co-producing Cherie Priest's novel "Boneshaker." The steampunk zombie story is set in 19th century Seattle where the undead have taken over the town, and a mother searches for her teenage son in the city's dark underworld. The project has been described as "Jules Verne [author of "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea"] meets "Resident Evil."" Intrigued?

Not too long ago, we reported that "The Social Network" star Jesse Eisenberg would be starring in a direct-to-DVD flick called "Camp Hell." The story found the "Adventureland" actor as a camper amongst demonic forces, controlled by a nefarious priest in a strict religious community. It turns out that Eisenberg — whose face and name were plastered all over the marketing material (including the DVD cover) for the film — was only in the movie for five minutes. The actor is now suing Lionsgate for $3 million for the little stunt they pulled. Will you still check out "Camp Hell" out of curiosity?

"Birdemic II: The Resurrection" will begin filming in February and is set in Hollywood around a character named Bill who is trying to shoot an indie film. Can you stand a sequel or was one enough?
