In Hollywood, trilogies are the new sequel. So it should come as no surprise that George Miller, creator of the original "Mad Max" series, has a new trilogy in the works for the franchise.

The first film in the new series, "Mad Max: Fury Road," has long had Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron attached as its leads, but that flick is only the first in three films Miller has already written. In an interview with the Financial Times, Miller admitted that the trilogy was a natural progression of the writing process.

"We started with ['Fury Road'], but we then started to do a second story and a third. We’ve written the script for the second and almost finished the third. We never intended to, they were part of the exploration of the characters," he said.

Of course, first "Fury Road" actually has to be made. The flick has been notoriously delayed, first last summer, again in March and then again recently because of unexpected weather conditions in Australia. So, presumably, as long as "Fury Road" finally goes in front of the camera and makes a profit, we might get to see Miller's entire new vision.

In addition to the film, Miller also said that a "Mad Max" videogame is in the works. Apparently Miller and Warner Bros are teaming up to have a studio in Sweden develop the game.

"With the government’s support we can immediately go forward with two games,” Miller's partner Doug Mitchell said in the interview. "Warner Bros is standing by, willing to do 'Fury Road;' the incentive would bring it back here in a New York minute. It's not immediately obvious but the potential in the video games sector is massive."

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
