Rupert Grint Was 'Up For' Ron Weasley's 'Harry Potter' Death

"[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/383853/moviemain.jhtml"]Harry Potter[/url]" fans came startlingly close to losing Ron Weasley before the end of the magical novel series, as author J.K. Rowling recently revealed that [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/11/01/harry-potter-jk-rowling-kill-ron-weasley/"]she'd considered killing Ron[/url] before "Deathly Hallows" drew to a close. Of course, Rowling [i]didn't[/i] kill Ron, giving the red-headed wizard and his many fans the happy ending they were hoping for.

But even though most everyone is relieved that Ron didn't die in the books, there's one "Potter" insider who actually would have been open to the character's death — none other than actor [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/264435/personmain.jhtml"]Rupert Grint[/url] himself!

"When the last book came out, there was a lot of hype about one of me, Emma or Dan dying—which I was quite up for, to be honest," Grint told MTV News at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter earlier this month. Surprising words coming from the man who played Ron himself, but Grint's reasoning is actually pretty sound: "Nobody really dies in the wizarding World—he could've come back as a ghost or something!"

In the end, Grint is "glad" he survived Rowling's brief flirtation with killing Ron. Indeed, the recent reports of his near-death came as a surprise to Grint.

"I didn't really know about that. I didn't know how close I got," the actor said. "I suppose it was always in the back of your mind, whether you'd make it to the end. But it wasn't something I really dwelled upon. I just did the film at the time and enjoyed it."
