After watching both George Clooney and Bradley Cooper walk away from "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," director Steven Soderbergh is also finding it time to say goodbye.

The director has been developing the project with writer Scott Z. Burns since early 2010, but due to disagreements with studio Warner Bros and the lack of a leading man, Soderbergh decided to pass. The Playlist writes that Soderbergh and WB couldn't agree over casting and budget decisions, and the "Contagion" director decided to depart after deals with Cooper fell through only a few days ago.

Channing Tatum, who has become a regular in Soderbergh's recent movies, was briefly considered for the lead part in the spy flick, but ended up being passed over by WB.

"The Man From U.N.C.L.E." was originally supposed to shoot in March 2012, and the lack of any clear plan for the film to be ready for its start date was part of what caused Soderbergh to pull out. The Playlist is reporting that Soderbergh is planning on filling that spot with a new, unknown project.

He still has plenty to keep him busy with over the next few months, too. His action flick "Haywire" is set to hit theaters in January, and Soderbergh is busy in post-production now with "Magic Mike," his "stripper movie" starring Tatum. The Playlist says that WB will likely still move forward with "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," but will have to reschedule the flick's planned filming start date.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
