In this new exclusive clip from the Jason Reitman film, Mavis, a successful author of YA novels, has traveled to her hometown to win back her high school sweetheart, when she meets Matt Freehauf, played by Patton Oswalt, in a bar.

The two knew each other in high school—well, Matt remembers Mavis at the very least—and they discuss the awards they won, or didn't, back in their "glory days."

"Young Adult" hits theaters on December 16.
