'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' Trailer Rocks!

File this under things I definitely did not see coming: I am actually, seriously psyched to see "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/422051/moviemain.jhtml"]Journey 2: The Mysterious Island[/url]."



The "Journey 2" trailer, which debuted this week at [url="http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810187566/video/27206982"]Yahoo[/url], is fantastically strange and ridiculous. A sequel to "Journey to the Center of the Earth," this latest adventure ditches Brendan Fraser for [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/444156/personmain.jhtml"]Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson[/url] and keeps [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/341857/personmain.jhtml"]Josh Hutcherson[/url] firmly in place, carrying the torch for the Anderson family featured in the 2008 movie.

In this sequel, young Sean Anderson has grown up quite a bit since the conclusion of "Center of the Earth." He recruits his mother's husband Hank Parsons (Johnson) on a quest to find his grandfather Alexander ([url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/9107/personmain.jhtml"]Michael Caine[/url]), an explorer who's gone missing during his search for the fabled Mysterious Island, a place that may or may not be linked to the lost island of Atlantis. They enlist local tour guides played by [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/82065/personmain.jhtml"]Luis Guzman[/url] and [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/318323/personmain.jhtml"]Vanessa Hudgens[/url] to aid them on their expedition, though both Kailini (Hudgens) and her father are more than a touch skeptical of Sean's plans.

Skepticism is immediately cast aside when the foursome arrives on the Mysterious Island, a land populated by mountains of gold, baby elephants (and guys, I mean really teensy tiny baby elephants), Michael Caine's spirit of "advent-chah," gigantic bees that are big enough for grown men to ride on, emasculating massive lizards, and the peck pop of love.

Clearly this movie isn't for fans of the Rock's bloody-and-brutal outings, nor is it quite as dangerous (and potentially lethal) as Hutcherson's upcoming "Hunger Games." But I'd be lying if I said this movie doesn't look like a ridiculous amount of fun. If I was still in elementary school and I saw the "Journey 2" trailer, little-boy-me would be going absolutely mental for this flick. When the film arrives next year on February 10, I think I'm going to have to indulge my inner child and see just how weird this "Journey" sequel really is.
