R. Kelly's 'Soula Coaster' Memoir Delayed Until Spring

It appears that veteran R&B singer-songwriter and producer, R. Kelly, will add a new feather to his already crowded cap, when the Chicago native releases his autobiography--whether that's next week, or next year. The book was originally announced for a November 15 drop date, then it was suddenly pushed back a few months. Armed with the clever title Soula Coaster: The Story Of Me, Kelly will be co-authoring with award-winning novelist and writer David Ritz. Fans and detractors alike have turned news of the release into heated debated on Twitter.

Tweeters used lowbrow attempts of humor by offering a list of rejected names for the memoir, culling the titles from Kelly’s past indiscretions and public scandals. A report from the Village Voice today called to attention that shortly after the title was announced on Amazon, it was pulled from the site without much explanation. The Voice staff did further digging, eventually reaching the singer’s publicist who revealed that the book will not see a release next week as promised but instead, sometime in the spring of 2012.

The book's cover shows a tuxedo-ed R.Kelly decked out in shades, surrounded by a bevy of microphones. Kelly is seen striking a curious pose, his arms spread out in an almost cautioning way. David Ritz has penned biographies for notable soul musicians Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and Janet Jackson among others. He has also worked alongside Tavis Smiley, helping to co-author the popular journalist’s memoir.
