'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows' For Your Consideration Oscars Ad Launched

Warner Bros has their Oscar campaign for "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/383853/moviemain.jhtml"]Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2[/url]" under control. A [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDrAnVSQG0E"]new ad[/url] for their For Your Consideration crusade highlights every single tear-jerking moment from the film. Snape's memories? Check. Harry's walk into the forest? Check. The King's Cross Station scene? Absolutely. Only time will tell whether it has what it takes to convince the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to give it a best picture nod, but it certainly has us poised to go out and buy the DVD when it hits stores Friday.

Nominees won't be revealed until January 24, but Warner Bros is going all in for their FYC campaign. In addition to putting in a bid for Best Picture, they're also suggesting Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor ([url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/264615/personmain.jhtml"]Daniel Radcliffe[/url] and [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/264435/personmain.jhtml"]Rupert Grint[/url]), Best Actress ([url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/264730/personmain.jhtml"]Emma Watson[/url]), Best Score, Best Supporting Actor and Actress (everyone you could possibly think of, minus [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/198113/personmain.jhtml"]Tom Felton[/url]) and a whole slew of technical ones. Considering the fact that the Academy is more open to blockbusters ever since they gipped "The Dark Knight" of a nomination in 2009, it seems fair to believe that "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" will at least get a few major nods even if it doesn't win anything.

I am putting my bid in right now for [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/53059/personmain.jhtml"]Alan Rickman[/url] definitely getting a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Everyone from [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/22674/personmain.jhtml"]Michael Gambon[/url] to [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/37258/personmain.jhtml"]Matthew Lewis[/url] definitely put out an amazing performance in this film, but it was finally Rickman's time to shine. Even if "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" gets snubbed its much-deserved Best Picture nod, it will be satisfying enough to have Rickman in contention because he stands the best chance of actually winning.

But this year, more than any other, marks "Potter's" best chance of actually winning some major awards. Let's not forget how [url="http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1485419/return-king-rings-up-11-oscar-wins.jhtml"]"Return of the King" swept the Academy Awards[/url] when it was released. "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" is widely agreed upon as the best of all the "Potter" films, and it's been a point of contention over the past decade that "Potter" has never been nominated for a major Oscar (or even won for visual effects). It would be a fitting send-off to an industry-changing franchise to have it finally -- [i]finally[/i] -- be acknowledged for how great it is on Oscar night.
