Good news and bad news for "Zombieland" fans, starting with the bad: it's looking likelier and likelier that we won't get a sequel to the 2009 zombie action-comedy after all. The reason? Well, that's the good news — looks like we're getting a TV series instead!

New York Magazine reports that "Zombieland" screenwriting duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are working with Fox to develop a half-hour TV version of the post-apocalyptic comedy. The show is reportedly being eyed for the 2012-13 season, so more zombie-smashing action could well be headed to our television sets sooner than later.

Adding further fuel to the rumor of a TV series is this comment from "Zombieland" producer Gavin Polone, who told NY Mag: "If the TV show goes, then the sequel won't happen."

Of course, this isn't the first time we've heard about the "Zombieland" writers tackling a small-screen version of their story. Reese and Wernick spoke with MTV News about the subject in early 2010, saying they always thought "Zombieland" should be a TV series.

"If you watch the movie with that in mind, you will see some remnants of the television show," said Reese. "We have the ‘Zombie Kill of the Week,’ which was always intended to happen every week. The movie ends on a cliffhanger; it doesn’t have a real resolution. [The movie’s ending] is just our guys driving off into the sunset for some new adventures. That’s because, that’s how the television pilot ended."

Reese added at the time that they would probably recast their four leads and introduce new characters on a regular basis. That's all well and good, but how can you possibly recast Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee — unless, of course, someone wants to see if Josh Holloway is interested? (Hey, just saying!)

In other Reese and Wernick news, the "Zombieland" duo have just been announced to adapt a "Micronauts" movie for Hasbro, Paramount and Bad Robot. Deadline has the details.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
