Colin Powell Distances Himself From Bad War Plans

Colin Powell was a bright, shining addition to the Bush Administration years ago, giving some credibility to a new president who took over under a cloud of doubt caused by an election many viewed as manipulated.

Now, however, after being used as a show pony for too long, he's distancing himself from the biggest mistake his President's more trusted advisors have made...the flawed Iraq war plan.

It's too bad circumstances have forced Powell to have to work with these morons...he would make a far better president than Shrub, and both the US and the world would be better off if he were. Of course, if everyone's vote had counted in Florida, this whole conversation would be moot, but now I'm straying far off the beaten track...

I feel the same way about Colin Powell....I'd vote for him in a minute for President. Powell made the fatal mistake of taking the spotlight off Junior Bush at his welcoming ceremony....he spoke long and eloquently about his views of the world and his hopes for our future as a nation. Dubya got pissed at him from day one and soon set him up for humiliation.

Powell was the only member of the Bush administration that both Republicans and Democrats had respect for. The rest IMO are pretty much the old gang from the Bush Sr. administration running after their old agendas while propping up Jr. in front of the public and wiping his nose when he screws up.

I'd be surprised if Powell stays on if (don't shoot me, lol) Bush does win the next four years.

I would too, Koop. The problem is he is not running so he won't get very many votes. You can go ahead and vote for him anyway if you like. Since I live in Texas, I will go ahead and vote for Bush. If I lived in Fla. I wouldn't have to vote at all. One person, one vote everywhere in the U.S.A........except in Fla.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
