Nicki Minaj Wins Best Hip Hop Video At VMAs, Fans Discuss

Although the field for the Best Hip Hop Video award at this year’s VMAs was packed with stiff competition, Young Money diva Nicki Minaj bested the rest by nabbing her very first moonman – and an excited Nicki Minaj shouted out her hometown of Southside Jamaica, Queens during her acceptance speech. Nicki also made sure to give props to her YMCMB crew, praising Birdman and boldly declaring Lil Wayne the best rapper alive as the crew looked on with approving salute. The fans also weighed in, with tons of supportive tweets for the Pink Friday starlet.

“Nicki Minaj wins best hip hop award!!! That's epic!!!” tweeted an amped @FlyyGoody. Prophetic fan @ThisisMofyjoe knew ahead of time that Nicki would win by adding, What's did I say Nicki minaj will win best hip hop Video , that super bas video is too sickk (y).” User @chalvintapris chimed in with, “Congratulations Nicki Minaj for winning Best Hip-Hop Music Video! No wonder why Super Bass won it, been listening to it like hundred times!”

Some comments on Twitter weren’t as kind, although the negative tweets didn’t number high as could be expected. “smfh Nicki Minaj winning best hip hop anything is terrible” said an unsatisfied @GTM_AI. User @IAMKRIS24 skeptically added, “Nicki Minaj ...best hip hop video....i see where this is going.”

The critics couldn’t drown out many of Minaj’s fans, who kept the positive comments coming. “Heell yeahh! Nicki Minaj won the Best Hip Hop Video she deserved it!” tweeted fan @icesarcontreras while an approving @SergioAlcher tacked on the love by saying, “The winner for the best hip-hop video nicki minaj !!! She actually got the style and good music.”

Nicki Minaj won out amongst an all-male field in the Best Hip Hop Video category, prompting Lil Wayne to loudly cheer his protege on as one fan noted. "Lil wayne screams 2 Nicki Minaj: 'I TOLD YOU!!'" tweeted user @Messiah_A_McGEE. No word yet on user @Nick_Head who promised bodily harm if Minaj won the award. "And if Nicki Minaj wins best hiphop video over Kanye i'll shove pencils in my ears," the perturbed fan tweeted.
