What Will Chris Brown Perform At The VMAs?

Considered one of the more electrifying live performers, in the vein of the late Michael Jackson and fellow contemporaries such as Usher, Chris Brown has thrilled fans with his high-octane dance moves and capable vocals over the course of his six year career. After a potentially career-derailing assault on Barbadian pop princess Rihanna back in 2009, it appears that the 22-year-old Virginia native has returned to prominence and has been tapped as a featured performer at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

Chris Brown's current rise on the charts has been courtesy of a curious mix of edgy street-ready romps, sexy ballads and club crowd-pleasers — all a part of Breezy's increasingly vast arsenal. He has also been toying with hip-hop lately and dipped his toe into the rap pool, particularly with his mixtape Boy in Detention, released earlier this month. Trading bars with teenage pop sensation Justin Bieber and longtime pal Tyga, Brown has morphed into a jack of all trades in this phase of his career. As he continues to reinvent himself as an artist, which of the singer and dancer's hits should he break out for the VMAs?

He could certainly rip through his VMA-nominated smash second single from his F.A.M.E. album, "Look at Me Now" — although it isn't known if collaborators Busta Rhymes and fellow VMA performer Lil Wayne would join him onstage for the track. Speaking of collaborators, he'd certainly make a splash if he got Justin Bieber onboard to perform their Detention track "Ladies Love Me" which samples "Look at Me Now."

The album's first single, "Yeah 3X," is another potential, although Breezy dropped the track last fall, so it may be a little stale. The album's third and fourth singles — "Beautiful People" and "She Ain't You" — could both have the necessary stuff to rock the VMA audience and give him a chance to show off his legendary dance moves. Whatever Chris decides to perform, all eyes will be on the screen and stage this coming Sunday.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
