Outsider "Outsider E.P" - first single in over a decade!!

OUTSIDERBANNERAD.jpg

In the mid nineties the Junior Boys own label was at the peak of its powers, releasing music from Underworld, the Chemical Brothers and X-Press 2 and amongst this triumvirate of soon to be pop stars came some of the best underground techno & house music of the decade from the duo of Marvin Beaver and Justin Drake setting forth under the moniker Outsider. Fast forward almost a decade and a half and both Beaver and Drake look back on considerable successes under the banners of Dylan Rhymes and Peace Division respectively. However it seems for Beaver at least there is some unfinished business here, and so he has decided to take matters into his own hands, saying farewell to Justin Drake and setting out on his own! After lying dormant through the change of millennia and beyond it's now time for Outsider to rise from the still warm ashes of it's distant past to once again set alight the dancefloors of the present.

The eponymously titled 'Outsider EP' is built around 3 brand new cuts from the now solo Outsider production unit. First of these is 'Tapped Up', a tough and rollin' slice of techno with strength and stamina of a pile driver! Straight for the jugular percussion and a filtered drop that pushes the intensity through the roof lend this an edge that is sure to make it a peak time killer.

Next up we have romantically titled 'Baby', a deep and delicious slab of percussive tech house with a bassline that drives this superb record close to the edge of audio insanity. Once again this is an intense and engaging cut that is a surefire winner.

Finally we have 'Slit' a deep and hypnotic closer that goes further underground than it's bedfellows and hits a seam of purest gold; quality from start to finish.

Outsider is back, and despite the reduction in personnel the sound is as superb as ever - let's hope we don't have to wait another fifteen years for the next instalment!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
