AplusR is the newest adventure by the people who brought to you the groundbreaking parties Nylo and Map. I.e. the same people who brought to the UK the likes of Theophilus London and the BLK JKS for the very first time.

It is with this spirit of discovery that they've invited Maluca over from NYC for their latest party at Cargo. Maluca, recently signed to the infamous Mad Decent records draws inspiration from her Nuyorican roots but makes uncompromising dance music aimed squarely at the dancefloor - think a Dominican born Thunderheist and you're getting there -. Following in the footsteps of Buraka Som Sistema or M.I.A, Maluca embraces the rhythms and melodies ingrainded in her cultural heritage and adds an unhealthy dose of BASS to create an intoxicating musical cocktail that is both heavy and refreshing at the same time. Already singled out by the Midas-like Diplo, who will be producing her first 12" on Mad Decent, Maluca only has one way to go: up; and if you happen to cross her path here is only one thing to do: shake it!

Man about town Martelo will land at Cargo having just toured with Toddla-T and Oneman. With a myriad productions and remixes under his belt for the likes of Santogold, Riva Starr, Mumdance or Hervé to name just a few, Martelo has a proven record as a Bassline specialist of the highest order, and his sets flow seamlessly from dancehall to b-more to fidget via hip Hop and Dubstep and anything else in between. Dope ish!

Isa GT is a Colombian born member of Girlcore, the all-girl dj collective that has been destroying London's East End with their riotous mashup parties. A budding producer, Isa Gt has been championing the Funketa sound, a fierce mix of the Colombian dance Champeta and Brazil's percussion heavy Baile Funk. Her first release - Pela'o - has been remixed by Crookers, and she is now working on a track with the Zombie Disco Squad so she clearly knows what she's doing!

Last but not least, the in-demand Work it! djs will be warming hips and toes from the dj booth with their Boom-Bap-a-licious 90's hip hop selections that have earned them coveted invitations to play at Q-Tip's after-party and to host their own Bloc Party at the ICA. Boom Bap yo!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
