Yes, yes, we are banking on the sun coming out for this. We know. We shouldn't. But we are still going to do it. A tropical party it is. Bwoy!

The party starts early as The Garden festival crew invite Domu and El Harvo to play tunes in Cargo's yard. You know the score: lots of seating, cocktail specials, BBQ, and now with added table football and vintage photobooth.

At 9 the party moves inside where Banjo or Freakout strats off proceedings at a slow but hypnotising and utterly rewarding pace. We are massive fans of Alessio Natalizia: not only did he have the balls to cover Burial's Archangel, but he also did it in style; and the rest of his output is just as good if not better. Tonight Banjo... brings his one man show to Cargo for the first time and we just know it won't be the last.

As the sun sets outside, inside we turn the heat dial up to 11. It's the turn of the Souljazz Orchestra to take the stage. The SJO are Canada's finest JazzFunk ensemble and never fail to get the crowd dancing. Even in London. Expect a fiery delivery of some rightgeous Afrobeat and Tropical percussive numbers by one of the tightest bands on the planet.

As a fitting finale to the party The Heatwave rock up with a bag full of the hottest Bashment and Dancehall.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
