The old saying goes ‘there's no such thing as a free lunch' so it's lucky we aren't in the catering business as it would seem there is such a thing as a free party and we'll prove it! On May 3rd we launch the aptly titled ‘Recession' a totally gratis party to be held at the magnificent Cargo every first Sunday of the month throughout summer-that's 5 whole parties for the price of none!!! Jesus how do we do it! Talk about a gift horse!!

Festivities kick off in the Cargo courtyard at 4pm where our very own White Fang and Bushpig Modular DJ's plus Russian Vogue and Love Magazine's ‘Magwich' take to the decks with a mash up of summer sun tracks meets Malibu mansion knees up. Keep hydrated with one of the many drinks specials on offer then wait for the sun to set before winding your way into the venue where you should be prepared to be assaulted (in a good way) by party purveyors du jour ‘Work It' who'll be body slamming your senses with their classic hip hop, dancehall, old school RnB set- think of the best house party you've ever been to with a selection of the best songs you haven't thought of since you were 15 and you know you're experiencing ‘Work It!'

No chance to catch your breath as Queens Of Noize (Smash and Grab/BBC 6 music) take the reigns with an anything goes set. If a DJ set could be a punk rock show then these girls would have the market cornered with their method to the madness showdown.

JD Samson of Le Tigre fame steps it up next for her first appearance of the night under the guise of DJ before taking to the stage with new project MEN in a live show which resembles sun beams and rainbows taking on a human form to play disco pop electronica exploding in your face like a prism museum on the hottest day of the year!

With your hands in the air and memories of credit crunch and winter slipping away like a melting ice cream you'll be ready for easy on the eye Jacques Renault . Spinning the vibe onto a whole new trajectory, this NYC stalwart and BFF to numerous achingly hip labels like DFA and Italians Do It Better will be throwing out an expertly put together audio tutorial of the highest calibre of classic disco and italo. Dream weaving standard.

Rounding off the night London producers and DJ'sMock and Toof seal the deal with one of their ever sublime sets and having shot to attention with astounding remixes for the likes of The Juan Maclean, Scissor Sisters, Gomma, Hot Chip and Maps you know you can expect to hear some exclusive tracks from muso royalty.

Advisable to get there early grab a spot near the barbeque and have a rifle through the Modular jumble sale where you can get your hands on all kinds of ridiculous goodies from the entire Modular back catalogue for bargain bin prices and with cheap drinks flowing all night this party literally drop kicks the economy. Boom.

LIVE : MEN

DJ: MOCK AND TOOF + JACQUES RENAULT + JD SAMSON + QUEENS OF NOIZE + WORK IT + EAT SLEEP WORK/PLAY

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
