BLACK SEEDS @ CARGO 26/06/08

Recommended Posts

This very special edition of Broad Casting is going to mark the launch of Karen P’s contribution to the ‘…Broad Casting’ compilation series on Jazzanova’s Sonar Kollektiv label.

Having curated an already legendary gig in April which saw Ethio-Jazz legend Mulatu Astatke perform in London for the first time in 15 Years, Karen has again pulled in some incredible talent from across the globe.

Hailing from St. Louis by way of New York, Detroit and LA, Black Spade is a rapper, producer and song-writer whose innovative one-man team approach found a welcome home at US dance label Om Records. A graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy, Spade will also be joining the line-up at Sonar this year.

Support comes from another RBMA Graduate, New Zealand’s Adi Dick who has sung backing vocals for some of New Zealand’s hottest bands including the world-renowned Fat Freddie’s Drop.

Also performing on the night will be a band that has travelled a similar distance to be in London but who must remain nameless for now. We can tell you that they are a recent Sonar Kollektiv signing and that we are very excited at the prospect of their performance…

DJ Sets comes Karen herself and Si Begg, who co-produced exclusive tracks for her ‘…Broadcasting’ compilation. Si is best know for his work on Novamute but has also released under his aliases Si Futures and Buckfunk 3000 on other labels such as Tresor, Cheap, Skint and Shitkatapult as well as his own Mosquito label.

LIVE: BLACK SPADE + ADI DICK + VERY SPECIAL GUESTS FROM SONAR KOLLEKTIV

DJS: SI BEGG + KAREN P

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
