2008 kicked off in fine style for the world of Hard House, with a host of new nights, new labels, new DJs, and fantastic new tracks from brilliant new production talent supporting the scene-stalwarts. Nothing has epitomised this new energy and outlook more than Hi Oktane, the night started by Adam M and his brother Simon in Leeds. The last Hi Oktane in January packed in a fresh-faced, up-for-it crowd who stayed right until the final kick drums pounded the My House sound system. The DJs were excellent, the music was fresh and vibrant, and the event was the talk of the message boards. Rather than sit back, there has been more effort put in to making the next Hi Oktane a better party, with more energy put in to securing an even better line-up of DJs. With that in mind, please put your hands together for: Hi Oktane vs Vicious Circle!!

Topping the line-up we have the undisputed kings of Hard House, two people who have pushed the scene forward from the earliest days of Trade in the South and Insomniacz in the North and need no introduction. Performing a rare B2B set, we have Vicious Circle regular Andy Farley, and label boss Paul Glazby. Between them they have been responsible for some of the very biggest tracks and remixes of all time including ‘Hostile’, ‘Khemikal Imbalance’, ‘Kick It’, ‘Barriers’, ‘Dreams’ remix and ‘Good Side’ remix, and are still producing bombs today. With forthcoming tracks on Vicious, Tripoli Trax, and Tidy, their set will inevitably be something very very special

Originally seen as the protégé of the Vicious Circle boss, Ben Stevens is now considered by many to be the best technical DJ out there. Ben has accumulated a raft of the highest quality release on Vicious and many other labels over the years, and recently launched his own ‘Fireball’ imprint, which is looking good for the future, and completed his first appearance on Tidy Trax. Cyberkitten resident Lucy Fur is the most recent addition to the Red Management team, and having cut her teeth DJing up and down the country for Frantic, Polysexual, and Tidy Extreme Euphoria, has recently completed tracks signed to Hardsounds, Volatile and Toolbox. She will be mixing one CD of the forthcoming Toolbox album, and between these two you can sure of a sublime set.

The back room is hosted as always by the specialist Funk Deluxe promotion, hosted by the hardest working man in dance, Vince Robertson. The DJs performing in this room have all been hand-picked as experienced, highly respected performers who know how to rock the dancefloor and will offer up the perfect alternative to the Hardness of the main room. Dean H, Em Extreme, Russell James, Miss Adrenalin, Sarah C & Metz and Arran Swales will be spinning the best in house and electro around, so be sure to check them all out during the night!

Remember to get down early, as all advance tickets for the event have sold out and although there will be some available on the door, there is only so much room in the club! Miss it, miss out

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
