The sophisticated sound of summer on the White Isle

Bargroovescover.jpg

Forget the doom-mongers who proclaim that Ibiza is over. Last year, the Balearic paradise reported its busiest season for five years as music lovers flocked to the clubbing capital for a summer of sun-drenched fun.

Ibiza is a unique place where you can dance night and day and experience the crazy but magical atmosphere that only the White Isle can generate. It will never be over. And that’s why Bargrooves are paying homage to the music, clubs and people that make it so special with their second release of 2007 – The Summer Ibiza Collection.

If there’s one venue that sums up the Ibiza spirit - rocking all day and night to a soundtrack of premier house music, then the Bora Bora beach bar is it. How fitting then, that this year’s resident DJ, Oliver Lang, takes charge of Bargrooves latest instalment – direct from Ibiza to your ears.

As essential as this season’s hottest new shades, The Ibiza Summer Collection is a comprehensive guide to the more sophisticated side of the number one clubbing destination.

CD one captures a blissful afternoon spent sipping mohitos at a sun-drenched beach bar, with hot electro-tinged house tracks like Seb Davidson’s ‘Bondi’ and Timo Garcia’s ‘Magic Roundabout’ the perfect accompaniment to dancing barefoot in the open air.

CD two is the sound of a packed terrace in Ibiza town, laden with house movers and shakers like the vocal delights on Tim Fuller’s ‘Slightest Touch’ and the massive No Dolls’ ‘He’s Getting On My Nerves’.

Ian Pooley and Majik J’s driving, piano-led ‘Heke (Pooley’s Gone Balaeric Mix)’ takes the mix forward into late-night deep and delicious territory where Oliver Lang’s own wonky house triumph, ‘Dancing Girls’ takes the roof off before a grand finale arrives in the shape of Bob Sinclar and his anthem ‘Feel For You’ with Swedish house master Axwell on remix duties.

A compilation which sounds as good as it looks – don’t pack your suitcase without it!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
