A judge who briefly heard arguments in cases involving Anna Nicole Smith's death was ordered to undergo drug testing for six months on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge.

Broward Circuit Judge Lawrence Korda, 49, and prosecutors agreed that the marijuana charge will be dismissed if he stays clean for six months and performs 25 hours of community service.

Korda, who apologised in court, has already completed a drug and alcohol awareness course and agreed to random drug testing.

He was given a misdemeanor citation in March after police said they caught him smoking the drug in a city park. He filed a written plea of not guilty in April.

The fight over control of Smith's body began in Korda's courtroom after her February 8 death and ended up being heard by Circuit Judge Larry Seidlin, who became known during the televised hearings for his relentless one-liners and tearful announcement of his decision.

Korda later heard brief arguments in a related case, seeking to determine the biological father of Smith's daughter, Dannielynn. He ruled that a Bahamian court had jurisdiction over her custody.

He is on a leave of absence until a state judicial agency reaches a decision on what sanctions he should face.

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
