Valentino Khan has a new EP on the horizon, and we couldn’t be more hyped. The 33-year-old producer and DJ dropped one of the best projects of 2019 with his House Party EP. A follow-up was only a matter of time.

To tease, Khan shares his latest single “Blackmail.” Much like some of his biggest hits like “Pony,” “Pump,” or “Deep Down Low,” “Blackmail” is a gritty, bass house dish. It has the signature marks of an effective Valentino Khan track: the bass line slaps, the melody is catchy, and the vocal line is instantly cool. The hi-hats double up throughout the drop and the build-up after the first drop creates a carnival-like, psychedelic trip. In other words, “Blackmail” is another certified banger from Valentino Khan.

This new single and the upcoming EP are inspired from the blog-house era that introduced a whole youth generation to modern electronic music. To promote this new direction, Valentino Khan streamed his latest episode of the Quarantino Khan Show with tons of tracks from Justice, Boys Noize, Simian Mobile Disco, Mr. Oizo, and more. He also announced that new singles from the EP will be released every two weeks until its full release.

“My introduction to dance music over a decade ago came from passing by my brother’s room and hearing the distorted electronic sounds that were coming overseas from Europe,” said Khan. “This music was fresh to my American ears and created a new culture that motivated me to push boundaries as a producer.”

It’s going to be interesting to see new music from Valentino Khan with this focus. Make sure to keep an eye out for his latest releases ahead of the new EP.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
