Dominic Lalli (1/2 Big Gigantic) just launched his solo project and dropped its first single all in one sweep — and all in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

“Together” is an uplifting jazz track putting the artist’s saxophone skills front and center. With the same soulful style that has led Big Gigantic’s discography over the years, Dom’s finds newfound inspiration from recent events and shares his hopes for a brighter future. It’s a message you can hear through the music.

He opens up in a social media post:

I wrote this song a couple months ago in the middle of the global pandemic. I woke up feeling every feeling— every emotion— and just wrote it, recorded it from my home and posted it up online. It was very in the moment. I wrote that I found comfort knowing that we were all in this together and that hopefully we’d all come out of it a little stronger and as better humans.

Now, today, as the global pandemic lingers, we find ourselves in the midst of what has quickly become the largest civil rights movement in history. This is a breakthrough moment for humanity. I feel a sense of togetherness now, more than ever, and if we keep pushing we know we will finally start to see real change where we need it most. We are uniting our voices, working together and we won’t back down. I am learning more everyday how I can be a better ally, friend and collaborator to the BIPOC (Black & Indigenous People of Color) who have inspired my music & my life.

All proceeds from “Together” will be donated to the Black Lives Matter movement.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
