Avril Lavigne marries rocker boyfriend

Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne, famed for her feisty anthem Sk8er Boi, married fellow musician Deryck Whibley in California on Saturday, according to People magazine.

The outdoor, nondenominational ceremony took place at a private estate in the coastal city of Montecito, 140km north-west of Los Angeles, with about 110 guests in attendance, the magazine said.

Lavigne, 21, and Whibley, the 26-year-old lead singer of Canadian rock band Sum 41, had been engaged for about a year.

Lavigne, a native of Napanee, Ontario, burst onto the scene in 2002 with her debut album Let Go, which sold more than 14 million copies world-wide.

As opposed to other teen startlets, Lavigne not only sang live, but also played guitar at the helm of a scrappy-looking band.

Whibley enjoyed success in his own right with Sum 41, a boisterous combo whose debut album All Killer No Filler also went multi-platinum.

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
