THIS week's gossip magazines are a gluttonous feast of freshly popped babies, a trapped lunatic wife and a rake-like Australian bride-to-be with a minuscule bun in her slender oven.

The only glaring non-appearance in the brimming, mid-year celebrity landscape is the new sprog of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. Famous Weekly spends two pages trying, but ultimately failing, to explain why Suri has been a no-show for the two months since her birth.

Beside a photograph of a gloomy Holmes sitting on a park bench, the mag rehashes the theory that Cruise's fiancee is a gibbering wreck who is constantly in tears and not allowed to go out with Suri and do normal maternal things.
