This weekend kicks off Day Club Palm Springs 2019, the reoccuring pool party series at the Hilton Palm Springs Hotel. Run alongside Coachella, Day Club Palm Springs offers intimate, sunny sets from huge artists. Each day is curated, and this year features events curated by Diplo, Dillon Francis, Nora En Pure and more.

To hype the already sky-high levels of excitement, Your EDM has partnered with Day Club Palm Springs and two of its artists. We’ve got an interview from rising house artist Noizu, plus a playlist from him and fellow rising producer Nitti Gritti. Check them below!

An Interview with Noizu

Your music fits into the more accessible house sound that has become more popular over the past year. What inspired this musical direction?

I love the new style of House / Tech House that’s coming through at the moment. When I made the first Noizu records, I was really inspired by the Dirtybird sound and early Claude VonStroke records. I love trying to add weird sounds to my songs. Chris Lake has been a huge supporter of the music I make, which has really helped!

Alternatively, do you have plans to produce music outside of your signature sound?

At the moment I’m just trying to make music that excites me. I feel like I’ve really found my sound and lane so I just want to help pioneer it and keep things fresh. I always mess around with other sounds of course, but right now my focus is on Noizu and this sound.

What is your production set-up like? Digital with DAWs, analog, or a mix?

I use Ableton as my DAW. I actually mix it up a bit with my sounds, I use my Moog and Prophet 12 a lot to get that Analog sound, but everything else is in the box. I mix and master all my own music too, I’m very fussy when it comes to all that. I recently bought some Adam A8X speakers which has been a huge help with my mix downs… I definitely recommend them.

Who are your biggest musical inspirations and influences, both in EDM and in music at-large?

I love all sorts of music, I think it’s very important to listen to and understand a wide array of music even if you don’t make that genre. DJ Snake was a big influence to me at the beginning, his attitude towards work and keeping his music fresh was always really impressive.  Also, the early records that Tchami made really inspired me when I started making music.

What are your touring plans for 2019 thus far?

2019 has been my busiest year for shows so far.  I’ve done Holy Ship, an Australian tour, a sold out LA and Las Vegas show, Beyond Wonderland and many more.  I have EDC Vegas coming up which I am so hyped about.  There’s loads more shows, just check my Instagram for announcements!

How do you approach your live DJ sets?

I like to play out a lot of my own records. I also find some records that really stand out to me and add them in and around my own songs. I like to freestyle with club shows, I never prepare my set I just have a big folder of songs I know I want to play.

Finally, what are your plans for your Day Club set?

I’m going to get my poolside heaters out and get the vibe going! Then hang out after with some friends and have a good time.

Bonus question…going to Coachella while in the area? If so, who are you most excited about?

I’m not going this year unfortunately, but my friend Dombresky is playing so make sure you go see him if your there!

Nitti Gritti offered his thoughts on Day Club and his upcoming set:

“Excited to be able to play some of my chilled out Music at the day party next weekend! I love to go hard at my sets, but I truly love playing music for people to vibe to under the sun. I worked on a few of these records in the playlist and want people to see how much I love House / Future bass, alt rock, and all the genres that get me in a good mood”
Catch Nitti Gritti on Friday, April 19, at Diplo & Friends, and Noizu on Sunday, April 21 at Jauz Presents Off the Deep End during weekend two of Day Club Palm Springs!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
