Opening in "a record number of theaters for an R-rated release," per Box Office Mojo, the superhero sequel earned an estimated $18.6 million in Thursday night previews, a record for an R-rated movie, and then smashed things up by making an estimated $53.3 million on Friday, another record for an R-rated movie.
