South Korea orders Microsoft to unbundle Windows

Guilty again: Microsoft has now been told to offer versions of Windows in South Korea that are free from Windows Media Player and its IM client

The Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has imposed a 33 billion won (£18m) fine on Microsoft and ordered the company to unbundle Windows Media Player from its Windows operating system. The move comes after a lengthy process that found that Microsoft abused its dominant market position in violation of the country's Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act.

Just a side note:

Maybe it's just my experience with the people I'm around, but every Korean I know uses MSN Messenger to IM like this: 안녕 (pronounced "Ahn-yong") AKA "Hello" (informal) in Korean :-P

Bush backs Microsoft vs Korea

p2pnet: The Cheney/Bush administration has taken up the good fight on behalf of Microsoft in the latter's protest over the South Korean decision to fine it almost $33 million, and order it to unbundle its Windows Media Player and MSN messenger from its Windows operating system.

"Korea's remedy goes beyond what is necessary or appropriate to protect consumers, as it requires the removal of products that consumers may prefer," CNET News has J. Bruce McDonald, deputy assistant attorney general at the Justice Department's antitrust division, saying.

      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020."
