p2pnet:- Will Apple next week unveil a video iPod player in its “second major product announcement in a little over a month”?

And will Steve Jobs now sue the San Jose Mercury News for leaking the info in the same way that he went after AppleInsider, Think Secret and Power Page, but ignored the Wall Street Journal, Reuters and CNET for doing the same?

Of course he won’t.

“A cryptic invitation to an Oct. 12 event in San Jose, e-mailed to members of the press, featured a photo of a closed theater curtain and the words, ‘One more thing...’: says the Mercury News, but it doesn't say where it got the tip that the invitation might centre on an iPod video player, although it does say:

"Rumors have swirled for at least a year that Apple was working on a video version of its successful iPod digital music player. Such a device could potentially play music videos or other downloaded video clips. Apple has been in discussions with at least one major record label, according to sources close to the matter.”

Next week's announcement is scheduled for 10 am at the California Theater in San Jose, says the story.

Apple has already been well and truly pipped by you-know-who, but that probably won’t make a lot of difference to the Apple faithful.

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
