Don Williams - Amanda Lyrics

Shawn

Recommended Posts

I've held it all inward, Lord knows I've tried.

It's an awful awakening in a country boy's life.

To look in the mirror in total surprise,

At the hair on your shoulders and the age in your eyes.

Amanda, light of my life,

Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

Amanda, light of my life,

Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

Well, a measure of people don't understand,

The pleasures of life in a hillbilly band.

I got my first guitar when I was fourteen,

Now I'm crowding thirty and still wearing jeans.

Amanda, light of my life,

Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

Amanda, light of my life,

Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

Amanda, light of my life,

Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

Amanda, light of my life,

Fate should have made you a gentleman's wife.

I have more than 1800 songs on random play and this has played twice in the last hour, If you haven't listened to it yet tonight you have no belief in fate.

Don Williams was the biggest name in country music for a while, and was crossing over into pop charts too....then his career fell off the cliff....what happened that knocked him out of the top sellers?

It's a good question man. He came back in the mid-niinties with the song "Darlene" and it was on par with the originals, but that was the swan song for one of my fave artists.

I prefer Waylon Jennings version of this classic country tune.........my 2 favorite Don Williams songs is "If Hollywood Don't Need You" and "Good Ol' Boys Like Me".

Don was/is a great writer and singer of country music.......seems as though radio turned it's back on him......very seldom do you ever hear his music going out over the airwaves anymore.

Good Ole Boys Like Me

When I was a kid Uncle Remus he put me to bed

With a picture of Stonewall Jackson above my head

Then daddy came in to kiss his little man

With gin on his breath and a Bible in his hand

He talked about honor and things I should know

Then he'd stagger a little as he went out the door

I can still hear the soft Southern winds in the live oak trees

And those Williams boys they still mean a lot to me

Hank and Tennessee

I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be

So what do you do with good ole boys like me

Nothing makes a sound in the night like the wind does

But you ain't afraid if you're washed in the blood like I was

The smell of cape jasmine thru the window screen

John R. and the Wolfman kept me company

By the light of the radio by my bed

With Thomas Wolfe whispering in my head

When I was in school I ran with kid down the street

But I watched him burn himself up on bourbon and speed

But I was smarter than most and I could choose

Learned to talk like the man on the six o'clock news

When I was eighteen, Lord, I hit the road

But it really doesn't matter how far I go

I can still hear the soft Southern winds in the live oak trees

And those Williams boys they still mean a lot to me

Hank and Tennessee

I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be

So what do you do with good ole boys like me

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
