William Shatner to beam in for 'Star Trek' at Comic-Con

It's hard to imagine a better source for Star Trek arcana than William Shatner. The legendary actor (and frequent tweeter) is among the headliners appearing in some Star Trek-themed capacity at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, which will be filled-to-the gills with panels, merchandise and activations devoted to the nearly 50-year-old franchise.

Shatner, who played Caption James T. Kirk in the original 1966-69 series, as well as a series of movies, will join Scott Bakula (Enterprise), Brent Spiner (Data, Star Trek: The Next Generation), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine, Star Trek: Voyager) and Michael Dorn (Warf, Star Trek: TNG) on Saturday, July 23 at 2PM PST (Hall H) for a session titled Star Trek: Celebrating 50 YearsThe panel will look back at a half century of the iconic sci-fi series through some of its key player.     • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
