Kanye West Got Wilson Phillips to Sing Backup Vocals on Rihanna's "FourFiveSeconds"

Add Wilson Phillips, the pop group that achieved success in the '90s with singles like "Hold On" and "Release Me", to the list of musicians involved with Rihanna's "FourFiveSeconds", which features Kanye West and Paul McCartney. In an interview with Billboard, the group's Carnie Wilson (daughter of the Beach Boys' Brian) said that West reached out to them about contributing.

"He said, 'When I think of authenticity and I think of angelic, I think of you,'" Wilson said. She said that at their first meeting, West previewed "FourFiveSeconds" along with "Only One" and "Illuminati", the song he worked on for Madonna.

"He was really shy and he would just smile and he’s real soft-spoken, then all of a sudden when he started playing all these songs, he was dancing around the room," she said. "It was just like how Michael Jackson used to be. When he would press play, it was like, out came the artist and the creativity was just really there."

According to Billboard, you can hear them on the bridge and the chorus. Wilson said they were asked to work on their vocals outside the studio, without any particular direction. "He gave us sole freedom to just do what we do," she said.
