Firewood Seller In Rush Town Court Watch

(Rush, NY) 02/02/05 -- A legally blind 71-year-old man was in Rush Town Court Monday night to face misdemeanor charges over a firewood business he runs from his yard.

For the past decade, the town has allowed Howard Hetrick to chop and sell wood from his yard to pay his bills. He uses a conveyor belt to position the wood before chopping it, but the town wants him to stop.

Hetrick learned in court that the town isn't interested in making a deal. The town believes he kept selling wood after they asked him to stop, so he's charged with a misdemeanor and could spend six months in jail.

Rush town supervisor Bill Udicious did not want to talk about the issue. this; Rush Town Attorney David Hou, who appeared in court, would not say whether the town would consider dropping the charges."

"Well, this is really a matter of town and code enforcement, and since it's before the court we're not really open to discussion and have no comment,' he said.

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
