  8. Teenagers' Sexual Activity Is Tied to Drugs and Drink By COURTNEY C. RADSCH Published: August 20, 2004 WASHINGTON, Aug. 19 - The words of an old proverb - "Tell me who you walk with, and I'll tell you who you are" - gained new meaning on Thursday with the release of a national study showing that teenagers whose friends were sexually active were more likely to smoke, drink or use illegal drugs. Teenagers who reported that at least half of their friends were sexually active were 31 times likelier to get drunk, 51/2 times likelier to smoke and 221/2 times likelier to have tried marijuana, according to the study, released by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. 9. Two Firms Cleared of Swapping Violations Aug 19, 8:21 PM (ET) By DAVID KRAVETS SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The makers of two leading file-sharing programs are not legally liable for the songs, movies and other copyright works swapped online by their users, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday in a stinging blow to the entertainment industry. Among other reasons, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said Grokster Ltd. and StreamCast Networks Inc., unlike the original Napster, were not responsible because they don't have central servers pointing users to copyright material. "In the context of this case, the software design is of great import," Judge Sidney R. Thomas wrote for the unanimous three-judge panel, which upheld a lower court ruling that dismissed the bulk of the lawsuit brought by movie studios and music labels. The panel noted that the software firms simply provide software that lets individual users to share information over the Internet, regardless of whether that shared information was copyrighted. "The technology has numerous other uses, significantly reducing the distribution costs of public domain and permissively shared art and speech, as well as reducing the centralized control of that distribution," Thomas wrote. The entertainment industry could appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. You can read more here: http://apnews.myway.com/article/20040820/D84IK88O0.html

  17. Dirty Dentist Licks Patient's Breasts 46-year-old dentist Hiroshi Sato orthodontic practices apparently focus more on molestation than molars. Sato is suspected to have dosed numerous women with laughing gas before having his way with them. The woman who complained about him was slowly stripped on film, then Sato wildly licked her nipples as he maneuvered the camera into a close-up shot. Dentist Sato was arrested for quasi indecent assault following an incident when he allegedly told a young woman patient he needed to examine her breasts, capturing the examination on video camera after she agreed. “The woman filed a complaint against him. We had a specialist look into the case. The specialist confirmed there was absolutely no reason why a dentist should be touching a patient’s breasts, so we arrested Sato. He admits to the accusations. The trouble is, about a week after he was arrested, he made a payout to the victim and she dropped the charges,” a source close to the police investigation said. “Quasi indecent assault is only a misdemeanor, so Sato walks free. I’ve heard his payout to the victim ran into the millions of yen.” http://www.weirdspot.com/index.php/weblog/...tients_breasts/
  18. Going to a loo will no longer be same for men in Germany for a new gadget scolds them for standing at the lavatory pan. According to The Telegraph, The WC ghost, a battery-operated voice-alarm, manufactured by Patentwert is triggered when the seat is lifted. It is attached to the seats and delivers stern warnings to those who attempt to stand and urinate. "Hey, stand-peeing is not allowed here and will be punished with fines, so if you don't want any trouble, you'd best sit down," one of the devices orders in a voice impersonating the German leader, Chancellor Gerhard Schroder. http://www.doubleagent.com/show_briefing.php?briefing_id=138
