  1. Paying YouTube content creators easier said than done news analysis: Unlike many who post widely watched content on YouTube, Stephen Voltz and Fritz Grobe were angered by their video's popularity on the site. Fans had posted the clip, "The Diet Coke & Mentos Experiment," at YouTube without permission. Voltz and Grobe were flattered, but the "Mentos" video earned $30,000 at Revver.com, another video-sharing site that pays content creators, and the pair believed they could have doubled that total had the clip not been made available for free on YouTube. 2. From Wikipedia - When close friend and actor/film-maker Zach Braff heard a demo of Radin's song "Winter," he was immediately interested, and got the song onto his show Scrubs in the episode My Screw Up. The song received an overwhelmingly positive response and gave Radin substantial exposure with the show's demographic. The songs "Today", "Closer", "Don't Look Away" and "These Photographs" were also used on the show. Since, Joshua's songs have been further featured on the FOX Television drama North Shore, and the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy. His song "Star Mile" is on The Last Kiss movie soundtrack. The music skews towards folk - his voice reminds me a bit of Paul Simon and Sufjan Stevens
  3. WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- A 16-year-old boy being sued by five record companies accusing him of online music piracy accused the recording industry on Tuesday of violating antitrust laws, conspiring to defraud the courts and making extortionate threats. In papers responding to the record companies' lawsuit, Robert Santangelo, who was as young as 11 when the alleged piracy occurred, denied ever disseminating music and said it's impossible to prove that he did. 4. They should cut to the chase and just hire Britney--here career's over anyway
  5. Saw the documentary Waco: The Rules of Engagement tonight at the Screen Actors Guild, which a friend of mine made about 5 years ago. The role of the FBI and the ATF was absolutely disgusting-- - the authorities who raided and eventurally destroyed the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, and in the process murdered 86 innocent men, women and children , should all be in jail for their participation in this catastrophe. The film documents the event from the beginning to the end, as well as the subsequent coverup. Roger Ebert sums up my feelings fairly accurately. I'm also particularly disturbed by the role of the Clinton White House in this affair, who called the military into this situation. My general postive feelings about Clinton, have just been lowered a notch, and I have lots of questions about the White House's involvement in this mess.

  13. FBI turns to broad new wiretap method The FBI appears to have adopted an invasive Internet surveillance technique that collects far more data on innocent Americans than previously has been disclosed. Instead of recording only what a particular suspect is doing, agents conducting investigations appear to be assembling the activities of thousands of Internet users at a time into massive databases, according to current and former officials. That database can subsequently be queried for names, e-mail addresses or keywords. Read more at ZDNet
